To everyone who hasn’t flown south for the winter, Darren Aronofsky’s “Black Swan” is hot on our radar these days. The psychodrama places Natalie Portman, an aspiring prima ballerina, at center stage in Tchaikovsky’s world-renowned masterpiece Swan Lake. It must have been tutu heaven for costume designer Amy Westcott, the mastermind behind the stunning looks in the film. This is also the silver screen debut of Rodarte’s Kate and Laura Mulleavy, who designed 40 costumes for the entire ballet corps. The beautiful ensembles ruffled our feathers so much that we couldn’t help but let inspiration take flight.

The stars took center stage at the New York Premiere of “The Black Swan” last week, and we want the name of the villain who told the cast to break a leg on the red carpet, because this fashion roster was just a bad omen waiting to happen. Natalie, who never disappoints, didn’t delight. Poor Winona looked like she wore her older brother’s prom tux, and Thora was a matronly mess. Thank goodness Mila brought the smolder and saved the night. We could’ve pirouetted circles around some of these looks. What happened?!
